Fortunately, this is not the case with home schooling. When your child has finished his work, reward him by letting him do something he enjoys. If you need to keep your child occupied while you are working with one of your other children, have certain educational things your child can be doing such as building with Legos, educational computer games, reading a book, or puzzles -- whatever your child enjoys.
The Internet is more often used in teaching these days, and as a teacher you should not feel like you are slacking by letting your students use the computers to continue their learning. Through a variety of teaching resource websites you will be able to access a variety of mathematical computer games that make division into fun activities. These games can be continued at home, and you can even implement computer games and other division and math related games into their homework activities.
The next step is learning to write numbers, and this is where mathematics worksheets become almost a necessity. Unless you have great handwriting, lots of spare time and a fair amount of patience, writing worksheets will help you teach this valuable skill to your child. Dot-to-dot, tracing, following the lines and other writing exercises will help your child learn how to write numbers. A good set of worksheets will include practice sheets with various methods to help your child learn to write numbers.
Children can work with simple numbers worksheets from quite an early age and you will have greater success in getting them to work on the worksheets if you combine that learning work with something practical, or at least something they enjoy doing. For example, if you are using a simple addition and subtraction worksheet with your child, draw or type up another sheet of with squares and numbers printed onto them. Instead of writing the answers to the questions on the worksheet you can get your child to cut and paste the required numbers for the answers from from the second worksheet onto the first.
ALEKS, my personal favorite, uses artificial intelligence software to routinely assess what a student actually knows, reinforce the areas that they need extra help in, and moves them through a pie chart of skills with interactive lessons and explanations that students view along the way. Periodically, new assessments are given and the software individually redesigns the material that your student needs to learn to tailor a math course that is unique to each student. Rather than having chapter tests, students work to complete the entire pie chart. The course is complete when the student has 100% mastery, so the foundation of skills is very strong when a student completes the course. In any math program, students should also practice self-checking and use a Critique System for evaluating their personal problem areas, but with regular evaluations such as these and solid online math programs, students can significantly change the way they feel about math, as well as their skill in math. Online math is an excellent option worth considering, certainly for home-schoolers, but also for any students who want to brush up on skills over the summer.
Going to kindergarten is a big deal for children. If your child did not go to preschool or even if he did, he might feel some apprehension about everything he is going to need to know when he gets to elementary school. Even during the summer months, kids slide backward, forgetting most of what they had learned during the school year, simply because they are out of practice. Rather than letting your child get out of practice or feel out of place going to kindergarten, you can use free kids learning games online to boost your child has self confidence and enhance his skills before entering kindergarten.
The addition, subtraction & number counting worksheets are meant for improving & developing the IQ skills of the kids, while English comprehension & grammar worksheets are provided to skill students at constructing error free sentences. The 1st grade worksheets can also used by parents to bridge between kindergarten lessons & 2nd grade program. It happens on many occasions that children forget or feel unable to recollect the lessons learnt at the previous grade. In such situations, 1st grade worksheets become indispensable documents for parents as well as students. A number of commercial & charitable organizations provide a hard copy of such a worksheet at a very nominal price or even free of cost.
